Why They Immigrate Illegally...
Work is the Attraction

...And What It Means for the Rest of Us

We call it the Illegal Immigration Problem but that's not really accurate.  Our problem is with Economic Refugees who will dare anything to take a place even at the bottom of the American economic ladder.  These are people who come to our shores to Earn and then leave again, not to stay and become citizens.

Our Border Protection laws are adequate if they are respected, but that's not happening.  So we have to enforce them.  Since the problem is economic, though, there's another side to it we also have to face.  Scofflaw Businesses are taking advantage of these economic refugees to lower labor costs and unfairly compete against companies that play fair.  So we have more laws to enforce .

The costs of this problem become extreme as we look at the effect on public budgets when social services meant for citizens are offered to any and all comers.  We are a humanistic society and our reflex is to help whenever we can.  But a time has come when we can't even help everyone who is a US Citizen so we have to make the distinction, just like every other country does at its borders.

There are a number of ways in which the Federal Government could assist other nations to lessen the impact of economic refugees.  They have to be undertaken in the context of America controlling its own costs first, though.  Then we will be able to open more jobs to our own citizens and lower the cost to all of us for providing the social safety net.  Once the economic aspects of this problem are addressed we'll be free to look at real immigration and the positive impact it will have on the health of American Citizenship, just like it always has.

Neighbors & Friends,

Gradually the trickle of economic refugees entering our country has become a strong and steady flow.  Over time the number of non-citizens living here illegally has grown to be 10% or more of our population.  This process has put the Squeeze on all the rest of us, and it has done so at a time when global economic decisions also have us in a shop vise.

In this issue of the MZD2 Newsletter we will examine what's happened on the illegal immigration front, what that's done to us, and what we can do to resolve it.

We will also ask for your help in filling a job opening in this growing campaign, and in getting ready to help with the coming Lawn Sign campaign.  So please Read On and let me know your reactions when you're done.

- Daniel Webster, reminding us to think about

Sign Locations Needed

Can You Adopt a Needy Sign?

Beginning  on Labor Day Weekend the MZD2 Campaign will conduct an outdoor advertising program that will carry through 'til Election Day.  The actual signs will be a little smaller than this one: 18" X 24" for residential use.

Do you have a home or apartment located on a busy street?  Would you help Mark's campaign for congress by displaying a sign on your lawn or on your porch or patio so passer's by can see it?

If so, please contact Parker Lacoste, Campaign Manager, and let him know.  To E-Mail Parker just Click Here

We have 20 cities and towns to cover.  Your help in finding locations for our signs will be greatly appreciated.
HELP WANTED
As Mark's Campaign for Congress grows, so do its needs for specialized assistance.  Right now we need a person to fill the role of Web Master and Videographer for the campaign.  It will be a PAID POSITION.  It can't be very highly paid, though, so we're thinking of a college student or even someone still in high school with the technical orientation needed for the final push to the Election.  This could be a part time position.  It would be best if the new Web Master lived in or near North Kingstown since he or she will probably have to ride with Mark or Parker to most of the video shoots.

Do you know someone who's Technically Oriented, or Politically Oriented, or Both... and who is available to assist in Mark's run for congress?

If so, please let us know by E-Mail, or have that person contact Parker Lacoste, Campaign Manager, at parker@markz4ri.org.

Thank You for searching your own data banks to think of someone who might fill the bill!

By the way, on Saturday, July 26th, the 32nd Annual Save the Bay Swim was held.  It was my 10th consecutive entry in the event and I made the 1.7 Mile crossing in 1 Hour and 20 Minutes.  To do it I simply had to use the same kinds of vigor, skill, and determination that I've been applying all along to the task of winning a seat in congress.  To see some pictures and get all the details, Click Here.

Sincerely,
