Gaining
Momentum! What's the
Buzz?

| Friends &
Neighbors, |

This Week the MZD2 Campaign raised the bar on
both its energy level and its message. We hosted a
Fundraiser on Federal Hill, in Providence, that
succeeded on several levels. It was a financial
success, of course. It was also an organizational
success for the new campaign. Most of all,
it started a real Buzz surrounding the prospects of
our eventual electoral success, at least with the
supporters and activists who attended.
That's how these things start. Governor
Carcieri's endorsement was strong and
sincere. Even more humbling was the
broad cross section of people who turned out to drop off
a check and pledge their support down the stretch.
In the end, I can't succeed by myself in this
effort. All together, though, We cannot
fail. Keep listening for that Buzz as it gets
louder and louder up to Election Day.

 The Buzz
continues next Saturday, June 7th. It will be
a Buzz heard by a number of Candidates. RIRFW
is holding a Yard Sale and Auction to raise money for
races throughout the state. It all takes place in
North Kingstown, from 9:00am to 4:00pm, at Masonic Hall,
1515 Ten Rod Road. That's near the intersection of
Route 2 and The Victory Highway. The MZD2 Campaign
will be there to help out. Will you be,
too?
The Victory Highway. That would be a good
name for overall GOP Campaign in Rhode Island this
year. | | |

| Where the Real Buzz Comes
From |
When the people finally enter
the voting booth their decisions will be made on the
basis of the policy differences between my opponent and
me. The energy and excitement surrounding my campaign at
that time will be nice, of course, but in the end the people
have to choose the candidate they feel will help them out the
most.
We started to get some feel this week as to how at least
one of those issues is going to break. If you read last
week's MZD2 Newsletter you saw that I advocated for
domestic oil exploration, reasoning that if we could do a
pristine job of building the Alaska Pipeline in the
1970's we could certainly do equally well today. During
a mid-week TV interview our current Rep was emphatic that
the ecologies of ANWR, the Bakken Fields in the Dakotas,
and the Gulf of Florida are too fragile to survive exploration
and production efforts.
So The Other Guy is determined to protect our undeveloped
habitat, even at the cost of the prosperity of his own
constituents. As I have said many times, he has few
shared experiences with the people of the Second District so
he probably doesn't understand the impact that's going to have
on their jobs, their homes, and their local government
services.
I'm not suggesting we trash the wilderness.
I'm simply having faith that if we establish performance
objectives for the critical work of making us self-sufficient
in crude oil production we can do that job without screwing up
the environment. Think about that when you go into the
voting booth.
The next time my opponent absent mindedly brushes
something away from his ear it might not be a fly but the
growing Buzz from this Campaign gaining momentum. His
inattention could just leave him sitting in the
shadows. |
| Things Will Heat Up in
June... |
|
In the month ahead we plan a series of Fun events and
Fund Raising events to build on the Buzz we've already gotten
started. Right now we are compiling lists and working
with key supporters to lock down dates and some of the most
spectacular locations in all of Rhode Island. During the
month I hope to see many of you at one or more of these
gatherings. Certainly we need your financial
support but in a sense we need your emotional support, your
political support, and your endorsement even more.
