| Hey, Neighbor... |

Last Month in Westerly I helped the local GOP put on
their annual Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner for St.
Patrick's Day. Jim Beale did his usual masterful job at
the stove and I waited tables, along with a loyal group from
the Republican Town Committee. It was a metaphor for the
Service I'm offering to perform for everyone in the Second
District. We all know what has to be done to get dinner
on the table. Have a look at some of the things I'm
trying to organize to get Better Representation on the menu
for the whole District. |

 No matter how compelling the
message of this campaign is, it will go nowhere if no one is
able to see or hear it. The plain fact is that Political
Campaigns are paid for Privately. Without your political
support Mark cannot win on Election Day. Without your
Financial Support right now, his campaign will not make it to
Election Day. Take a look at what Mark and his Campaign
stand for. If you stand for it, too, plese drop by the
Web Site and get out your credit card:
Together we will get it
done. | |

"This thing we call 'Failure' is not the falling down but
the staying down."
- Mary Pickford, Actress
Are we in a Recession? Maybe. If so, we'll
soon be out of a Recession. We need to remember the
techniques of being successful in tough times. That's in
part because we'll need them now and in part because we're
sure to need them again someday soon.
"Our greatest responsibility is to be good
ancestors."
- Jonas Salk, Biologist
When we see the Government doing things we don't agree
with, we have to be Good Ancestors and lean on it to get back
on track.
"The race is not always to the swift nor the battle to
the strong - but that's the way to bet."
- Ring Lardner, Author
The best chance to be successful in November is for
each of us to become swift and strong. Our determination
must be that doing the Right Thing is more important than
ignoring our problems, no matter that it's easier to just
ignore. | |

| The Economy |
|
The American Economy is the engine of our culture.
It's world leading productivity and innovative application of
new technology are the twin pillars of the American
Lifestyle. Yet we have assumed that it would always be a
cornucopia of endless growth, job creation, and prosperity for
all. And, thinking that, we have been happy to load
burden upon burden onto the back of the productive economy,
not thinking that it would ever stall.
Well it has.
Looking ahead, it is high time to start cutting back on
some of those administrative and tax burdens so that the
American Economy can roar back to life. That is not to
say we should roll-back all the Occupational Safety or
Environmentally Sound Standards we have integrated into the
workplace over the years. It is to say that we should
intentionally cut government spending as a way to make more
capital available for economic development, though. It
is to say that we should seek economically viable solutions to
problems like Global Warming, Alternative Energy Sources, and
the Global Cultural Divide. Taking this
approach will let us all profit from doing the right
things.

| Education |
|
If a roaring Economy is to be the American Hallmark
again, then we need to understand the intimate relationship it
will have with our system of educating ourselves. In the
years ahead we will live in an economic environment that is
based on the value of Intellectual Property much more than it
will be on Natural Resources or Labor. Design innovation
and process improvement will be much more valuable than raw
materials or even factory space to the businesses that
succeed in this new economic surge. If the citizens of
Rhode Island are to participate at the forefront of this New
Economy then they will have to be educated in the Thinking
Skills that it will require. Developing those skills is
the kind of clearly set goal we will need to energize our
system of public education. Creating the atmosphere in
which that goal can be set and plans to achieve it made is the
proper place for government in this.
Just knowing all that is only the first step. The
next one is to be ready and able to fight to put it in
place. That's why Mark Zaccaria wants your help to send
him to Washington. Not to add to the Education
Department's bureaucracy, and not to create more unfunded
mandates, but to help make government the arbiter or umpire of
the Public / Private partnership that will have to develop to
service the New
Economy. | |

Freedom Isn't Free. To insure our continued Freedom
I have to work to provide a real choice for the poeple of the
Second District on this November's Ballot. For the
same reason you have to do the research on my positions and
those of my opponent. Ultimately it's your call as to
which vision of the future will represent you in the next
session of Congress. That's why I'm making these
E-Newsletters available to you and asking for your
response. Let me know how you feel either by replying or
by E-Mailing me directly mark@markz4ri.org . If we work
together to make the government we have into the government we
need, we can't fail.
Sincerely,
Mark Zaccaria Mark Zaccaria for Congress
